Shane Carwin

Shane thank you for taking time to do this interview with ReplayMMA.com we really appreciate it. I was pulling for you to win you do a lot for the fans it would have been nice. I have a few questions to ask you about the UFC and what your thoughts were on UFC 116.

JE: During the first round of your fight with Brock Lesnar did you think you did enough for it to be stopped? Did you feel the blows hitting him, or were they mainly being blocked?

SC A lot of the shots were connecting but Brock kept busy enough to last the round.

JE: There is a lot of talk that something happened between rounds. What happed? Were you injured, or gassing?

SC Nothing happened in between rounds. Towards the end of the 1st my body began locking up and I was not able to catch my breath. I essentially went into Lactic Acidosis and went down hill fast. I was unable to recover in time for the second and the rest is history.

JE: After the take down did you feel he was going to submit you the way he did, or did you think you were going to be able to escape?

SC I was able to defend it at first but I did not have any explosion left in my body. I was unable to defend myself and he was able to secure the choke.

JE: How did you try to defend against the arm triangle choke? Were you gassed, injured, or did you not train escapes?

SC As I just said I was not in a position to really defend myself. There is a defense for that move I just did not have the energy to defend it.

JE: Have you ever been in a similar position like that in any practice you might have done?

SC Yes it is a basic submission.

JE: Now, having already fought Brock Lesnar what would you do differently, if anything?

SC I wouldn’t really do anything other than make sure I breathed properly. I always want to be a finisher and when i see the opportunity to finish I will go for it.

JE: What are you plans now?

SC A little fishing, hunting, camping, boating and a LOT of family time.

JE: Who would you like to fight next?

SC I want to fight the Champion next, but I know I need to earn that shot again. So whoever the UFC has that puts me on the road to a title shot.

JE: When will you start training again?

SC I would have been in the gym Monday but I was diagnosed with Bronchitis so I stayed away so I did not get anyone else sick.

JE: What do you think about Fedor Emelianenko’s loss?

SC I did not see it but all fighters must lose and the great ones will lose and come back better from it. Fedor is a great fighter and we have not seen the last of him.

JE: Is Brock the toughest person you have fought yet? If not who is?

SC It seems weird looking at his record but I still think Gonzaga was my toughest fight to date.

JE: What do you do in your off time to get yourself focused?

SC I do not have a lot of off time but I use my job as an Engineer to keep myself grounded and focused on the important things in life.

JE: You make a lot of posts on MMA.tv and Twitter, are you a tech savvy person?

SC Sure I work with computers everyday. I am not down with all of the internet slang but I know my way around a keyboard.

Shane, thank you once again for taking this interview with us. We hope you become a big time ReplayMMA.com fan/follower, like we are to you! You have a great manager in Jason. We hope to see you kick some ass in the future.
