MAIN CARD:

Non-title Welterweight: Dan Hornbuckle (21-3) vs. Brad Blackburn (17-11)

ROUND 1: Bad Brad gets off first landing a left hook and aggressive coming in.  Hornbuckle double legs and takes the fight to the floor ending up in Blackburns guard.  Hornbuckle stands up, Bad Brad quickly bounces up firing and landing a uppercut dropping Hornbuckle to the ground, Blackburn follows in landing a few solid shots to the head, Hornbuckle recovers quickly and the fighters end back up on the feet.  Brad has crisp striking and is looking very solid on his feet.    Hornbuckle seems to have his wits about him landing a few inside low kicks.  Blackburn is consistent with multiple punch combinations.  Hornbuckle eventually fires a jumping left high kick slightly landing.  Both fighters now landing sound Punch’s, both aggressive.  Exciting first round.  The end clinchung as the bell rings.

10-9 Brad Blackburn

ROUND 2: The fighters start the second round with Hornbuckle throwing a kick to the mid section, even exchanges, neither fighter letting up with their hands.  Hornbuckle lands a counter right hand that echoed through the arena, Blackburn took it well and didn’t appear to be hurt. Hornbuckle continues to look for counter opportunities.  Blackburn lands a nice combination to the body, not far after, lands an accidental kick to the groin.  there is a breif pause in the action.  Hornbuckle continues on…  He comes out aggressively throwing straight kick and punch combinations.  They continue to trade blows, both fighters being aggressive as the round ends.  Blackburn slips, Hornbuckle surges forward landing.  MUCH closer round, giving the nod to Blackburn landing more shots.  Could of went either way.

10-9 Brad Blackburn

ROUND 3: Hornbuckle putting more pressure on Blackburn as the round begins. Several kick punch combinations land.  A straight left cross seems to have woken Blackburn up.  Both fighters continue to keep the pace as they throw a series of combinations.  Neither fighter having a clear advantage up to this point with 2 minutes to go.  Hornbuckle has landed a few solid body kicks that seems to be the most damage done thus far, he then attacks the outside of Blackburns leg.  Hornbuckle starts to turn it on, bloodying Blackburn and getting the advantage on the fight.  Landing several punches to the face, along with forward knees Hornbuckle clearly wins the third round and Blackburn seems to tire.  Its going to be a close fight to score.  Great fight.

10-9 Hornbuckle

DAN HORNBUCKLE def. BRAD BLACKBURN via decision. (29-28 all three judges scorecards)

Opening-round Heavyweight Tournament Fight: Damian Grabowski (12-0) vs. Scott Barrett (10-1)

ROUND 1: The Polish Sensation opens the fight landing a heavy outside leg kick.  Barret works a bodylock transitioning to a single leg takedown attempt.  Grabowski with underhooks in, lands a knee to the groin.  The reg pauses the action and Barrett takes some time to recover.  As they open up, Grabowski lands a big right straight left hook combo.  Barrett achieves a body lock lifting the Polska in the air, taking the fight to the ground.  He works from Grabowski’s gaurd, with Grabowski quite active from bottom postion.  Barrett works to half gaurd and attempts to pass a few occasion.  Barrett is then swept by the big Polish Sensation and Grabowski ends up in Barretts gaurd.  As the fighters work to the feet, Barrett immediately takes the fight back to the ground with a solid double leg.  After working in Grabowskis gaurd, not a whole lot of action until the Polish fighter lands a nice upkick.  After a breif exchange Barret goes for another takedown towards the end of the round, in which Grabowski stuffs.  The round ends.  I have Barrett winning that round do to takedowns, but he appears to be quite gassed going into round 2

10-9 Scott Barrett

ROUND 2: Barrett goes in for a takedown right off the bat, he brings Grabowski in the air and slams him onto the canvas.  Barrett passes to half gaurd and continues to attempt to pass to side mount.  Grabowski remains active off of his back, but cant seem to get Barrett off his back. At one point, in an attempt to spin out, Barret take the back of Grabowski and rains down heavy fists.  He goes in for a rear naked choke, but Grabowski explodes out and ends up in Barretts gaurd continuing to be more active with his hands.  Finishing the round strong.  I still give the round to Barrett however giving the big takedown/slam in the beginning of the round and general control positioning,

10-9 Scott Barrett

ROUND 3: The Polska opens with a heavy inside leg kick and circles out.  Barrett clearly wants to take this fight back to the ground and body locks Brabowski.  Grabowski presses Barrett against the cage, and lands a knee to the head.  He pushes off and continues with his low kicks and now opening up with his hands landing an uppercut.  Barrett pushes Grabowski in the cage but the Polish fighter separate and really starts opening up with his hands.  Barrett is fading and clearly tired.  Grabowski landed several punch combinations and Barrettt has nothing left.  Uppercut and left crosses are landing at will, no shot yet to put Barret down.  After much of the same Grabowski lands a big left head kick, followed by right cross after left hook and so on.  Now he appears to be a bit gassed.  Barrett takes the fight to the ground once again with about 30 seconds to go.  The round finishes with Barrett on top landing some softer blows.  I give that round to Grabowski for landing many many shots.  Although it might of been too little too late.

10-9 Grabowski

DAMIEN GRABOWSKI def SCOTT BARRET via unanimous decision (30-27)

The crowd disapproves.

Opening-round Women’s World Championship Tournament Fight: Jessica Pene (7-0) vs. Zoila Frausto (7-1)

ROUND 1: Kicking off the televised portion of the card, Zoila opens the bout throwing precise inside leg kick combinations, eventually going high and landing a clean shot to Pene’s head.  Pene eventually surges in for a takedown, Fruausto fights it off.  The two fighters clinch against the cage both working for a dominate position.  Zoila flips Pene around  pressing her against the cage.  Eventually the fighters separate, and square off once again in the middle of the ring.  Zoila appears to be the better striker and Pene seems to realize, shooting for another take down.  Nothing doing there, once they separate, Zolia lands a head kick, superman punch, followed by another head kick.  Pene pulls guard, once again Zolia avoids the ground.  The round ends.

10-9 Zoila Frausto

ROUND 2: Zoila opens the round the aggressor, landing another heavy outside leg kick, eventually landing a well times left hook.  Pene eventually lands her first big shot, also a left and Zoila circles.  After a bit of a stalemate on the feet, Pene once again clinchs w/ a body lock and fights to get the fight to the ground.  Zoila eventually separates firing off a right hand that grazes Pena.  The two clinch once again both continuing the struggle to gain an advantage in that position.  Towards the end of the round Zolia lands an inside trip taking the fight to the floor.

10-9  Zoila Frausto

ROUND 3: Zoila works the jab to start the round, landing another outside leg kick, Pene answers with a lighter kick of her own.  Zoila presses Pene against the cage,. the two seperate and continue striking.  Neither landing any shots of significance until Pene lands a well times body kick.  She goes in for another takedown which is stuffed by Zoila, Pene presses against the cage, however Frausto overpowers Jessica and is now doing the pressing (against the cage).  Not a whole lot of action, Zoila pushes off and fires a spinning back kick, landing the shot to the body.  Pene throws a high kick of her own, and attempts another double leg takedown which is stuffed.  Zoila ends the round strong throwing a hard roundhouse kick, not entirely landing.  But it appears she did enough to win the fight, ultimately being the aggressor the entire time and thwarting any attempted takedowns.

10-9 Zoila Frausto

ZOILA FRAUSTO def. JESSICA PENE via decision (30-27, all 3 Judges scorecards)

Opening-round Heavyweight Tournament Fight: Cole Konrad (4-1) vs. Rogent Lloret (9-1)

ROUND 1: Cole comes out aggressively pressing the Spaniard landing a shot to the body.  Rogent circles off and things begin to settle down.  After a low kick attempt by Rogent, Cole takes the fight to the ground via double leg,  working from the top Cole sits in Rogents half guard peppering him with short hammer fists for the majority of the round.    The Spanish fighter works his way to his feet but finds himself trapped in a guillotine by Cole.  He rolls out of the sub attempt and the fighters wind back up on their feet.  Neither fighter landing any significant shots as the round ends.

10-9 Cole Konrad

ROUND 2: After a while and lack of action to open the fight, Rogent looks a bit timid on the feet, and seems to be looking for a counter.  The fighters have a brief exchange however still nothing of substance has happend yet halfway through the 2nd.  Cole lands a right hand finally, and after a little more activity from both fighters Cole presses Rogent up against the cage.  Very briefly the fighters seperate.  The crowd seems displeased with the lack of action. Rogent attempts a head kick, Cole blocking.  The fighters open up breifly, and Cole lands an inside trip taking down the Spainard.  That is short lived however and Rogent pops right back up to his feet, although finds himself pressed against the cage with Cole eventually landing a solid uppercut as he pushes off.  Boring round, goes to Cole for the one takedown and landing a few shots.

10-9

ROUND 3: Cole takes down Rogent right off the back and begins to work the body.  Cole doesn’t seem to be doing much to improve position 2 and a half minutes in.  Cole eventually passes to half guard, but there is still a lack of action and not much being done.  However Cole is still controlling the position and clearly going to finish the fight on top, and winning a decision.

COLE KONRAD def. ROGENT LLORET via dec. (30-27 all 3 judges)

UNDERCARD:

Local Main Event: Shonie Carter (49-24) vs Torrance Taylor (8-7)

Shonies entrance was as expected, about 20 women walking in carrying his various martial arts titles along with a few tiki torches.

ROUND 1: Flashy kicks from both fighters open the round, both fighters being quite aggressive.  Taylor clips Shonie with a right hand, and Shonie eventually takes the fight to the ground for a breif moment.  As they stgand, Shonie holds a body lock and attempts a German suplex not quite getting Taylor in the air, but takes him down again regardles.  As the fighters make their way back to the feet, Taylor comes in and Shonie lands the signature spinning backfist.  It landed SOLID however Taylor didn’t go anywhere.  Taylor continues to pressure Carter.  Shonie gets a body lock and presses his opponent against the cage.  Shonie continues to scramble and finally gets the takedown at the end of the first round.

10-9 Shonie Carter

ROUND 2: Torrance comes out and lands a few kick punch combinations to start off the round.  He takes Shonie down and takes his back very breifly, Shonie scrambles out, the two continue to work for position on the ground, but make their way back to the feet.  Shonie shoots in and brings Torrance to the ground this time around.  Not much is done on the ground, but Torrance is the aggressor on the feet, landing a slap like spinng heel kick at one point.  Shonie continues to back away landing an occasional inside leg kick.  The two finally open it up on the feet in a very exciting exchange which Torrance is getting the best of Shonie, a few head kicks that land brings the crowd int a frenzy.  Shonie looks a bit tired at the end, and Torrance certainly won round number 2.

10-9 Torrance Taylor

ROUND 3: They start the third and it was a bit odd as Shonie indicated something wrong with his eye?  Tough to say, but the fight restars and Torrance goes in aggressive, as Shonie responds in kind.  Shonie gets a body lock, but cannot take Taylor down and Taylor powers his way into side mount.  Taylor is peppering away with short elbows and punches clearly winning the first half of round 3.  Taylor begins to land heavier shots on Mr. International and is really getting the best of the Chicago native.  Shonie rolls to his belly and Torrance attempts a rear naked choke.  Shonie rolls and Torrance finishes the fight fully mounting Shonie.  Shonie has been laying on the canvas since the round ended.

10-9 Torrance Taylor

ROUND 2: Knabjain lands a solid right hand to open the round after an initial feelingout process.  He continues to work his combinations with left hook right straight combinations and lands a very solid right hand and is using solid head movement to avoid any of Gassaways strikes.  Knabjain then shoots in for a double lef, and takes Gassaway down,  Knabjain looks very solid leading up to this point and really raining down a heavy ground and pound attack from Gassaways gaurd.  He continues his onslaught furthur into the round.   The ref eventually stands the fighters up, which doesn’t seem proper given the fact that he’s been working from top postion.  Gassaway went in for a takedown attempt, fell off to the side, but took an arm of Kevins with, almost sinking in an armbar.  Knabjain turns into the hold, and the round comes to a close.  Very impessive round for Knabjain,

10-9 Kevin Knabjain

ROUND 3: Gassaway lands a stiff left jab at the start of the round, Knabjain eventually answers with a solid right hook of his own.  After a failed takedwon attempt Knabjain lands a right hook of his own,  Gassways with a solid right head kick that smack Knajain pretty good.  Knabjain begins to work for a takedown driving Gassaway against the cage.  Knabjain appears to be tiring as the round goes on and Gassaway is now getting better of the standing exchanges.  Knabjain attempts a ew more takedown attempts but Gassways is having none of it landing a solid left hook as they come out.  As the round comes to a close, Gassway is a bit more crisp to finish and landed more shots throughout.

10-9 Brian Gassaway.
